Ferric Chloride rapid etching solution FECI3 (Iron (III) Chloride) to etch all types of copper circuit boards, as well as other metals such as stainless steel and brass etc. It also has applications in the art world. Supplied as full strength 40% Strength (45 Baumé specific gravity 1.45) – this solution can be diluted by an additional 30% for use with copper which then makes the Baumé 34/35 (specific gravity 1.34/1.35). A 30% etching solution tends to produce the fastest etch rate with copper. This Ferric Chloride Etching solution has more than 50 g/l copper capacity and etching rates of about 30 down to 10 µm/minute. Optimum Etching solution temperature is 40-50 degrees celcius, but the Ferric will still work at room temperature. Ferric Chloride is also used in sewage treatment and water treatment (Acting as a coagulant and a floculant) and as a catalyst in organic synthesis.
