Fixed voltages are available from a minimum of 500V but a specific voltage between 40V and 10kV can be programmed according to the user’s needs. Voltage, capacitance and leakage current measurement add more depth to insulation inspection whilst voltage ramp and voltage step insulation testing (burning, early break, i-limits modes) help reveal drops in resistance at increased voltages. These capabilities make the instrument suitable for a range of sectors including electricity transmission and distribution.Several advanced features on the Chauvin Arnoux CA6550 make insulation analysis even more detailed. Polarisation index (PI) and dielectric absorption ratio (DAR) calculation negate reading variations related to temperature and humidity whilst programmable-duration testing prevents corrupt results due to transient current. Dielectric discharge calculation permits fault-finding on heterogenous insulation and relative mode can compare ppm/V ratios.
